Australian Fulbright Alumni Association

The Australian Fulbright Alumni Association’s goal is to harness the collective power of Fulbright Scholars’ contributions and connect Fulbright Alumni with the broader community to share ideas, inspire and challenge the status quo. We are a professional membership for Fulbright Alumni. With some 400 members across Australia, we do this by holding forums and conferences; connecting visiting US scholars and returning Australian scholars to local alumni; and hosting informal social events. The U.S. Embassy in Canberra

The first United States ship to enter an Australian port was the Philadelphia which arrived in Sydney in 1792. Subsequently, American trading ships, usually bound for China, and American whaling vessels appeared in Port Jackson for trade or for replenishment of supplies. In 1833, American merchants opened trading branches in Australia. This led to increased commercial exchange and resulted in the appointment of the first Consul in Sydney, Mr. James Hartwell Williams, on May 20, 1836. U.S. Consulate General Melbourne

Since J.A. Henriques was appointed Consul in 1852, the United States of America has maintained a consulate in Melbourne, Australia. The Consulate General moved to its present location on St. Kilda Road in 1990 and works to promote close ties between the United States and Australia. The Consular District covered by Consulate General Melbourne includes Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and the Northern Territory, which comprises approximately 35% of Australia’s population and land area.  Read more…

U.S. Consulate General Perth

The first U.S. consular official in Western Australia was posted to Fremantle in 1886, with the first Consul General appointed to the State’s capital of Perth in 1937. Western Australia is Australia’s biggest state and occupies the entire western third of the country, with a population of approximately 2.6 million. The consular district of WA has around 15,000 U.S. citizens at any one time. Read more…

U.S. Consulate General Sydney

The Consulate General in Sydney is the oldest American Foreign Service post in Australia. The first American Consul was appointed in 1836, providing for more than 180 years of diplomatic relations between our two great nations. The district includes the States of New South Wales and Queensland and also includes Norfolk Island.
