Freedom 250 is the official national initiative marking this historic milestone, bringing together events, programs and stories celebrating the history, achievements and future of the United States.
For Fulbright Australia, 2026 is a particularly significant year. Alongside the 250th anniversary of American independence, we are celebrating 80 years of the Fulbright Program and more than seven decades of educational exchange between Australia and the United States.
Since 1946, Fulbright has connected people across borders through education, research and cultural exchange. More than 6,000 Australians and Americans have participated in Fulbright exchanges between our two countries, building lasting connections and contributing to our shared future.
The Fulbright Generation250 Scholarship, established as part of the wider Freedom 250 anniversary initiative, is one way we are marking this milestone — supporting Australian and American scholars whose work contributes to areas of shared importance to both nations.
