My Fulbright research will develop and apply new genomic sequencing methods that could revolutionise our understanding of how new species evolve. My project looks at an amazing group of little birds, but it will be the start of a major advancement to how we study the diversity of life across many species.

Rhiannon Schembri is an evolutionary biologist at Macquarie University, studying genome evolution and speciation. Her PhD research explores these processes in Australian grass-finches, using big data to understand adaptation and biodiversity.

As a Fulbright Scholar, Rhiannon will work with experts at Cornell University to investigate chromosome evolution, unlocking the potential of museum collections to deepen understanding of global biodiversity.
