During my Fulbright I will listen and learn about the complexities of the Australian minerals sector, and develop an engagement-through-science framework that also can be employed in the US and around the world.

Professor Karin Olson Hoal is a geologist and the Wold Family Professor in Environmental Balance for Human Sustainability at Cornell University. She has worked across industry and academia in the US, southern Africa, Australia, Canada, and Chile in the area of geomet, linking science and engineering to transform mineral resources.

Karin’s Fulbright research develops a science-based connection between communities and resource managers, recognising that innovations in the minerals sector will come from well-informed stakeholders. Combining geomet understanding of mineral resources with their own extensive knowledge, communities can more effectively participate in this expanding and impactful sector.
