My Fulbright aims to discover and enhance cultures of prevention among the Australian public and its governmental officials through mapping the conditions under which Australian people’s narratives express acceptance or refusal for One Health primary prevention policies and understanding the policy processes of designing and implementing One Health policies in Australia from various levels of government.
Prof. Elizabeth Shanahan is a policy scholar specializing in One Health policy development and implementation. The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored global vulnerability to the spread of
disease, and Australia is leading the way in rethinking its approach to these threats by incorporating the globally recognised One Health framework.
As a Fulbright Scholar, Liz will collaborate with Dr. Chris Degeling at the University of Wollongong to identify and strengthen cultures of zoonotic disease prevention among Australian public and government officials. This research will involve mapping the conditions under which Australians’ narratives express acceptance or resistance to One Health primary prevention policies, and examining the policy processes involved in the design and implementation of One Health policies across different levels of government in Australia.
