My Fulbright research project examines skills and emotions of doctoral students as they prepare for and complete their oral dissertation defenses (vivas). Because the practice is relatively new in Australian Ph.D. programs, it provides an opportunity to examine how relevant skills develop in the absence of longstanding traditions.
Dr.David Feldon is a Professor of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences at Utah State University, where he also serves as Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Studies. His research investigates the development of expertise in the sciences and doctoral student preparation.
As a Fulbright Scholar, David will study skills development in Australian PhD students during their oral dissertation defences, a practice relatively new to Australian higher education.
