My Fulbright combines field work and lab work to save threatened land snails from Lord Howe Island. I’ll join a team of researchers at the Australian Museum to carry out a population genetics study and complete the first reference genome for an Australian land snail.
Nelia Perry is known colloquially as a “snailer.” She recently graduated from Pomona College with a degree in Molecular Biology, where her senior thesis explored the diet of endangered Hawaiian land snails.
Passionate about conservation biology and microbial ecology, Nelia is conducting research at the Australian Museum on threatened land snails from Lord Howe Island. Her Fulbright project will result in the first reference genome for an Australian land snail, advancing conservation efforts.
