My research at UNSW will help policymakers and utilities create mechanisms to make renewable energy more effective, affordable, and resilient. By shifting household demand to match renewable energy supply using smart household technologies, we can usher in a more sustainable electrified future.

Emily Zhao is a recent graduate of Duke University, where she earned dual degrees in statistics and environmental policy (magna cum laude).

Dedicated to renewable energy and sustainability, Emily’s Fulbright research at UNSW focuses on optimising household demand-side responses to maximise renewable energy use. Her work aims to inform policymakers, utilities, and regulators on accelerating the energy transition and improving grid resilience.
