My Fulbright research will develop materials that allow for the targeted, localized release of therapeutic bacteria into diseased tissues. This has the potential to improve the efficacy and safety of microbial cell therapies for advanced treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.

Dr Ryan Hansen is an Associate Professor in the Tim Taylor Department of Chemical Engineering at Kansas State University. His research involves developing novel materials and interfaces that advance microbial biotechnologies in food, energy, and health-related applications.

As a Fulbright Scholar, Ryan will investigate the use of hydrogels that are designed for the controlled release of therapeutic bacteria at a specific time and location in the body.
