My Fulbright research focuses on developing AI models using NASA’s PACE hyperspectral satellite to enable near real-time nutrient monitoring, improving water quality management for the Great Barrier Reef. This work aims to support the Reef’s resilience and recovery by addressing critical challenges from pollutants and environmental changes.
Dr. Lachlan Phillips is a postdoctoral researcher with CSIRO’s AquaWatch mission, where he applies artificial intelligence to improve coastal modelling and water quality forecasting. Combining expertise in ecology and oceanography, he develops innovative methods to pre-train AI systems on satellite imagery.
As part of NASA’s PACE Early Adopter Program, Lachlan’s Fulbright project will advance hyperspectral imagery techniques for efficient water quality forecasting.
