My Fulbright research explores the use of open-source large language models like ChatGPT in the unwitting generation of disinformation. The goal is to develop a set of detection schemes and guardrails at the model level, thus keeping disinformation from reaching the information-sphere and protecting the body of human knowledge.

Dr. Jason M. Pittman is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland Global Campus. His area of expertise is the convergence of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. His research interests include cyber information influence, responsible AI controls and guardrails, and computational theory. Jason also has interests in computational semiotics and computational linguistics. Lastly, he also has broad industry work experience from tech startups to large corporations, and the US Department of Defense.

Jason’s Fulbright aims to construct the necessary theoretical frameworks and practical technologies necessary to detect disinformation present in open-source large language models like ChatGPT.
