My Fulbright research examines stakeholder experiences with relocation programs in Australia to improve these adaptation programs globally. Using oral histories, interviews, and archive work, I seek to understand how intergenerational memories of past relocations can be used to normalise the idea of future relocations.
Dr. Elyse Zavar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Management and Disaster Science at the University of North Texas. Her research examines how communities mitigate hazard risks, with a focus on household relocation programs and post-buyout open space management.
As a Fulbright Scholar, Elyse will study past relocation programs in Australia to explore their impact on adapting to environmental changes.
