My Fulbright research will investigate the best-practice grazing strategies for sheep within photovoltaic systems and capture the perspectives and insights of key stakeholders. Collaborating with scholars at The Ohio State University and industry participants, I’ll develop scalable, sustainable strategies for grazing sheep in these systems.
Dr Amy Bates is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow Central Queensland University. Her research explores the optimal supplementation strategies using locally available hays, grains and pulses to address nutritional gaps in extensive cattle grazing systems in northern Australia to increase production and sustainability. Additionally, Amy collaborates with smallholder cattle farmers in Vanuatu to develop smart, resilient production systems.
As a Fulbright Scholar, Amy will expand her ruminant research profile to explore innovative production systems and management practices at the intersection of agricultural and renewable energy – grazing sheep within photovoltaic systems.
