About the Award

The Fulbright Scholar Award (funded by Kansas State University) is awarded to a senior academic, government scientist, or other key researcher to undertake a collaborative project at Kansas State University in the United States. The successful applicant will work with a tenured or tenure-track colleague at Kansas State on a significant collaborative short-term research program in any academic discipline. Kansas State University is seeking:

Scholars of established reputation working in an academic or research institution academics (generally at Associate Professor or Full Professor level).

Practicing professionals who have established reputations in their fields.

Senior members of academically-based professions who are currently engaged in the private practice of their profession.

Eligibility

General Criteria

Must be an Australian citizen.

Must not be a dual citizen of the U.S.

Must be residing in Australia at the time of application (exceptions may apply – please see Eligibility and Conditions).

Must not have already commenced this project in the U.S.

Must not have held a J1 or J2 visa in the 24 months before program commences.

Must hold an undergraduate degree.

Award Criteria

Must have a letter of invitation from Kansas State University.

Professional applicants: Practicing professionals with significant experience (10 years +) in their field may apply for this award without a PhD.

Scholar applicants: Must have a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in their field (including PhD program).

*Academics whose host is outside these areas might also be eligible depending on the research project being proposed. For example, working on biofuels in an engineering department, water issues in an engineering or geography department, or agricultural policy with a counterpart in the School of Leadership Studies or departments such as Politics and Economics could potentially be eligible

Benefits

Monthly Stipend:

USD $5,500 per month for the duration of the program.

Accommodation:

Provided by Kansas State University valued at USD$2,000 per month.

International Travel Allowance:

round-trip, economy class airfare directly to and from the scholar’s home city and the city of the host institution (capped at AUD$4,000).

Domestic Conference Travel Allowance:

USD$1,000.

Dependent Allowance:

Up to USD$3,000.

Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges (ASPE):

A limited Health Benefits Plan designed by the U.S. Department of State and administered by Seven Corners, Inc. Please note this plan is NOT an insurance policy.

Orientation and Gala:

Travel, accommodation, transport and meals at the Fulbright Orientation and Gala Presentation Dinner.

Visa:

J1 visa (and J2 for traveling family members*) organized by the Fulbright program.

Support and Guidance:

From the Commission prior to and during program.

*J2 visas are contingent on eligibility, including whether or not the dependent has held a previous J1/J2 visa and duration of stay with the awardee. Only spouses and children under 21 are eligible for J2 visas.
