Have you found a research topic that the world needs to know more about? A U.S Scholar award allows applicants to expose their interests in a unique and welcoming environment at an Australian institution.

The Australian-American Fulbright Commission offers a range of Scholar Awards for research periods of 3-4 months. Each year the Commission offers up to five general scholarships awards (in any field), and three sponsored scholarships (in a range of disciplines).

Who Can Apply?

  • Applicants will be a an associate or full professor, or have appropriate professional experience.
  • Applicants willing to undertake full-time research at an Australian institution for a period of 3–4 months
  • Applicants that meet the citizenship requirements for this award

Entitlements

Scholarship entitlements vary per award. Please see individual scholarships for details. Awards generally include:

  • A living allowance
  • Funding for international flight to/from Australia
  • Health coverage under Medicare
  • Health and Accident Insurance (ASPE) to maximum of US$100,000 (scholar only)
  • Access to Fulbright Alumni in the U.S. and Australia for social and professional networking
  • Support through the Fulbright Commission to assist with administration, visas and general enquiries
  • National Orientation Program, Showcase and Gala Presentation Dinner

Fulbright Scholar Awards

The Fulbright Commission offers up to five Fulbright Scholar Awards annually, available in any field/ discipline. These awards support a 3-4 month project at an Australian institution. They are open to senior academics and appropriately qualified professionals.

Fulbright Future Scholarships

Funded by The Kinghorn Foundation
The Fulbright Future Scholarships (funded by The Kinghorn Foundation) are for U.S. academics seeking to undertake 3-4 month collaborative research projects in Australia. Applicants must propose study/research programs that have the potential for tangible impact on the health, wellbeing, and prosperity of Australians and Americans.

Fulbright Scholar Award

Funded by Curtin University
Curtin University is an internationally recognised leader in research related to geosciences and resource engineering and is located in Perth. This award is open to senior academics and appropriately qualified professionals to undertake research in the fields of resources and energy for 3-4 months.

Fulbright Scholar Award

Funded by the University of Wollongong
The award recipient will spend up to four months working in Wollongong, one of Australia’s most picturesque university locations, conveniently located 60 minutes from Sydney. The Fulbright Scholar Awards (funded by the University of Wollongong) support recipients in any field, for periods of research for 3-4 months. There are two awards available each year.

Funded by the University of Canberra
The University of Canberra (UC) has a strong commitment to integrated learning and specialises in professional education and applied research. This award is open to senior academics and appropriately qualified professionals, and enables exceptional U.S. Scholars to undertake research in priority areas of the UC, including environment, governance, health, sport, education and communication, for periods of 3-4 months.

Funded by the University of Technology, Sydney
Open to senior academics and appropriately qualified professionals, this award will enable exceptional U.S. Scholars to undertake 3-4 months research in priority areas of the University of Technology, Sydney including, data science, sustainability and health.

Fulbright Scholar Award

Funded by CQUniversity Australia
CQUniversity Australia is strategically focused on engagement and social innovation, undertaking change-maker research, and delivering research impact across its broad geographical footprint. Projects must be of high academic quality, align with CQUniversity’s research strengths and focus on building bilateral relationships with the U.S. This award supports projects of 3-4 months.

Fulbright Scholar Award

Funded by the Regional Universities Network of Australia (RUN)
The Fulbright Scholar Awards (funded by the Regional Universities Network of Australia) will support research projects undertaken at any of the network’s seven member institutions. The Regional Universities Network (RUN) is a network of seven universities with headquarters in regional/rural Australia and a shared commitment to playing a transformative role in their regions. There are two awards available each year.
