Distinguished Chair Scholarships offer life changing opportunities for associate or full professors to further on-going research. Australian institutions are eager to asses your chosen field and for you to ultimately share your exceptional knowledge with Australia.
Distinguished Chair scholarships are open to appropriately qualified U.S. academics and professionals. These scholarships aim to foster cultural understanding and educational exchange in a wide range of disciplines including public policy, advanced science and technology, health, entrepreneurship and innovation, arts and more.
Who Can Apply?
- Applicants will be a full professor, or have the appropriate professional experience.
- Applicants planning to undertake full-time research at an Australian institution for a period of 4-6 months
- Applicants that meet the citizenship requirements for this award

Entitlements
Scholarship entitlements vary per award. Please see individual scholarships for details. Awards generally include:
- A living allowance
- Funding for international flights to/from Australia
- Health coverage under Medicare
- Health and Accident Insurance (ASPE) to maximum of US$100,000 (scholar only)
- Access to Fulbright Alumni in the U.S. and Australia for social and professional networking
- Support through the Fulbright Commission to assist with administration, visas and general enquiries
- An accommodation allowance
- Funding for domestic travel in Australia for Public lectures
- National Orientation Program, Showcase and Gala Presentation Dinner

Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Applied Public PolicyFunded by Flinders University |
This Distinguished Chair position will allow full or associate professors with distinguished academic careers, and significant publication and teaching records to conduct collaborative research at both Flinders University and Carnegie Mellon University Australia (for 4–5 months). It is designed to increase the awareness of the field of applied public policy in Australia, and to promote comparative and collaborative research between Australia and the United States. |
Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Arts, Humanities and Social SciencesFunded by the Australian National University |
Open to distinguished academics at the level of associate or full professor, this Distinguished Chair position is to promote collaborative research between faculty in Australia and the United States in the arts, humanities and social sciences at The Australian National University (ANU). Positions will be for 5–6 months. |
Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Entrepreneurship and InnovationFunded by RMIT University |
The role of this Fulbright Distinguished Chair is to enable exceptional senior scholars (associate or full professor) or professionals from the United States to undertake research and/or practice of importance to RMIT in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation. This position aims to promote collaboration between Australia and the United States to stimulate interest and build capacity in innovation and entrepreneurship. Position will be a maximum of 6 months. |

This Distinguished Chair enables U.S. full Professors from the United States to undertake research of importance to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) for 5–6 months. |

This Distinguished Chair position seeks exceptional U.S. specialists to engage in collaborative trans-disciplinary research in the field of cyber-mediated information influence at the University of Adelaide for 5-6 months. |
